FMT Shipyard & Repair

FMT Training Center

We believe in providing a continuous education program with formal training that not only meets but exceeds regulatory and industry standards. All of our positions require a specific amount of training.  We have developed specific courses for our organization, combined with continuous education programs to track and adjust employee’s skills to insure continuous improvement. These programs have helped our employees to become the highest skilled professionals in the industry. We are very proud of our training programs and the high professional standards that we have created.

Our training program has been an important part in meeting our goal of safe and efficient operations. We partner with Delgado Community College, and other organizations to have the cutting edge technology for industry specific training.  We utilize a state of the art towboat simulator that is used by our licensed operators, as well as other positions in the company.  We offer career opportunities for all positions, especially our entry level positions with advanced progression programs that are rewarding to the employees and offer benefits to their family.  Such a benefit package is rare in todays work force.

We start our entry level employees off with a controlled 14 day safety orientation training program,  where they learn about our safety culture as well as gain the basic skills of working on our towing vessels. These employees then graduate into a 6-12 month program designed to achieve their USCG licensing for different classes of bulk liquids. This training is performed on the newest equipment in the industry, including towboats built especially for the comfort of the crews. Employees have the option to continue their training to become a United Stated Coast Guard Licensed Master of a Towing Vessel.

Our employees have the skills to work with any other company in the industry.  However they choose to work with FMT because we are the best company in the industry.

Simulator

In conjunction with its partnership with Delgado Community College, the company has a state of the art simulator at its training facility, whereby its crew can experience “virtual reality” training under simulated conditions.
