Newest Equipment:

Since 1998, FMT has committed significant resources for the construction of the newest, most operationally efficient, and diverse fleet of tank barges and towboats in the industry. The Company’s new barges build began with the single largest order of double-skin vapor recovery barges at that time. Since then, FMT has further expanded its customer service capabilities beyond refined petrochemicals, distillates and agricultural liquids by designing and taking delivery of barges that are capable of hauling black oil cargoes, cargoes requiring constant heat (such as asphalt and coker feed) and specialty chemicals as well as barges capable of hauling pressurized cargoes. The average age of the FMT barge fleet is 4.2 years, the lowest in the industry.

In 2005, the Company launched its new towboat construction, beginning with 90’ Canal Class Towboats (2,400 & 2,600 H.P.) and then 84’ Canal Class Towboats (2,400 H.P.), 110’ River Class Towboats (3,300 H.P.), 120’ River Class Towboats (3,822 H.P.), and 140’ River Class Towboats. The new boat construction has been a tremendous success in providing the best and safest equipment for its crew and customers, and also in achieving significant fuel savings.

FMT takes great pride in having the newest most technologically advanced and environmentally (Greener) friendly Push Boats and Barges in the industry. The new fleet has a 50% reduction in emissions and the engines in two classifications of the new fleet have lowered full consumption by 1,000 and 2,000 less gallons of fuel daily! FMT utilizes more than the standard amount of steel in the construction process of our barges for extra protection of the cargo and in turn this helps keep our community safe.
